After more than 20 years’ development of insurance discipline, Shandong University of Finance and Economics established the School of Insurance  in 2011, which is the first one in all universities in Shandong Province, and one of the only few in China. With the reform and opening-up and the development of higher education, the evolution of the School of Insurance witnessed the finance and economics education changes of China, as well as the growth of insurance discipline.

At present, China's economic and social development has entered a period of new normal, while the target of building a comprehensive well-off society has stepped into a decisive stage. With an aging population and the changing family structure , and the widespread use of Internet, the potential risks have increased in China’s economic and social operation. The CPC Central Committee and State Council have attached great importance to the role of insurance industry in the overall strategy of economic and social development; meanwhile, rapid development of insurance industry has risen to the state will. China is marching forward from a big country towards a powerful one in insurance, which will surely lead to higher demands for insurance discipline.

Facing the future, the School of Insurance aims to develop itself into the biggest and strongest insurance discipline in Shandong Province and at same time one of the first rate nationwide, by building a high-level teaching staff and an academic team, further sharpening research orientation, and improving the quality of scientific achievements and teaching affairs, promoting talent training, aggregating domestic and overseas resources, consolidating the construction of think tank, and enhancing social service capacity.
